New Feature Sweep solid

New Feature Sweep solid

Hi Autodesk,

Now we have Autodesk Inventor HSM, it will be nice to have a new feature that sweeps a solid allong a path.

When you use a profile milling it is hard to design the result.

But when you simulate it within Inventor HSM, you see how the results look.

So please make a feature to design easier results like this.

If you look at something called a J-Slot in downhole oil tooling that is the kind of sweep needed

Hello Walter,

I believe your idea request is the same as follows: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/ideas/v2/ideapage/blog-id/v1232/article-id/6136

I recognize your idea was posted earlier (2/17/2014 as opposed to 10/13/2014) however the other Idea already has 114 kudos (as of 3/13/2015).  As such I would like to use the other Idea as the Master.  Please be sure to cast your kudo to it as to not split the votes.  Thanks! -Dan

Badly needed... especially for modelling food & packaging industry scrolls / screws etc..

Autodesk, take a look at this.

This is what we need within Inventor.

For anyone needing to produce bottle feeder / feed scroll shafts - there's a new app to do this specific task. See YouTube videos:

Good job, Luke.

Is there a chance for downloading the tutorial sample dataset?

That's a good idea wh. I'll get the files uploaded and post them.

I've written an app that produces timing screws like this. It doesn't yet have the 'simulation player' of the Topsolid software but I might add that in if people want it.

Contact info@ldcadsolutions.co.uk with any queries while you're waiting for Autodesk to add this function 🙂

@LukeDavenport that's brilliant. Well done! If you can do it... then Autodesk should do you a favour and buy it from you. Lets just get it in the product.

This HAS to be in the 2017 if not sooner! It would make cylindrical cam type features that can't be designed with that generator so much easier! I'm thinking of selector components in gearboxes... with a result showing what you actually get not something similar. I estimate a reduction of 50% in design/ sketch geometry design. Plus gains in CAM programming time... Ramps for ball bearings also come to mind...

As others have pointed out, these sweeps on 4 and 5 axis machines and mill-turns are easily handled by CAM software. I'm sure there are many other instances where it would save time designing these features and give a true representation of what you can machine and what you want.

I my experience in CNC, being able to sweep a volume along  a path, to generate cylindrical or globoid cams in 3D would give the manufacturer alternatives  when it comes to tooling (not being forced to use a tool the same diameter as the cam follower roller), one could machine by surfaces or 5-axis sweep strategies smaller tools.

Although very specific to packaging, it would be usefull to have a module specifically to generate timing feed screws, single and paired, where one selects the tool Solid (i.e. bottle), and in a table defines the spiral characteristics ( i.e. constant and variable spiral pitch segments, and the bottles orientation ( i.e. for bottle rotation around an axis moving with the bottle as it travels along the spiral axis .

I was reading a article in CAD Magazine that Solid Edge ST9 has implemented the Sweep Solid.

So Autodesk I think it's time to come in action to implement this feature for Inventor.

I am surprised sweeping with a solid is not already available. Please make this happen.
