at the moment if you use the split tool for this case:

You obtain this cut, that can be unwanted:

and these 2 solids:

I would like this option:

I know it may be  nit-picking, but you can "distract" cut-direction by just complementing your cut-tool sketch with a 90 degree bit.

Then you straightaway get just 2 split bodies instead of 3:

I know this workaround, and this is only a model simplification. Not all are so simple.

The idea is right to avoid this workaround.
