Docking the main parts of the browser

Docking the main parts of the browser

Sometimes I work with large and complex part models. Most often in the case of reverse engineering.
I then have to scroll up and down the browser a lot. It is unergonomic.

I would like the fixed browser items to be anchored.
The ideal would be a flexible system in which everyone (in a specific document) can choose whether and which elements he wants to dock on the screen.

Can you share some screenshots of what you are asking for?  My browser bar is docked to the left side of my screen and can be moved if needed.  If you have a large model, you will probably still need to scroll up an down in the browser.

Hi @CGBenner

I mean docking standard browser elements.

Ideally, I can choose in a specific document which elements I want to block from moving.

It would be great having:

- a model states folder that remained visible while you scroll down in the tree (like Excel freeze panes).

- offering it as another tab in the heading area of the model tree.

- or possibly having that folder appear in its own separate floating or dockable window.

Any of these would make toggling back and forth between model states much more efficient...

Hi @harvey3ELEA, this idea has been around for quite some time, e.g. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/docking-the-main-parts-of-the-browser/idi-p/11683473

In this thead you can also find links to other, similar ideas.

@ihayesjr : Is it possibly to combine these ideas? Or do you do that in the background anyway?

Hi Raj, I was unaware of the other links with similar requests (including the other linked threads you mention).  I searched using keywords "Model States", so that was a limitation.

I don't see where there's a specific request for strictly accessing the Model States folder as a separate entity, but nonetheless, same overall idea.

Thanks, Harvey

This is the Inventor's Idea board, not Vault's. An Inventor owner would have to merge these.

This idea is similar to the freeze line that can be added to Microsoft Excel tables, where info above the freeze line does not scroll (remains stationary) and information below the freeze line can scroll.  I'm constantly scrolling to the top of the tree window to change representations, relationships, or access origins.  This would save time by reducing scrolling.

I've included some screen shots of excel to show what I am talking about.

In the screen shots, the freeze line is under cell #4.  When you scroll down, everything above cell #4 doesn't move.

Additionally, if there was a bar that could be adjusted like the "rollback bar" on a part model that would be very helpful.  That way you could adjust what part of your design you want to keep constant.  When I make a frame, I could keep the frame at top and accessible for mating or referencing rather than constantly searching up and down the tree.
