Library protection

Library protection

Please add a password protection for the entire library to ensure the data integrity!

If then a user wants to change a protected style, he has to change the style in the library (with password) or he has to create a copy.

All you have to do is have your IT department set up folder protection. I have all my clients set up this way.

Find out who you want to control the library and make him or her the only one that has permission to edit the files and everyone else has read only.

Then the person that has control have him set up a project just for the library so if he has to change or add to it he can do it under that project.

Yes but then it is still possible to change the local "copy" of the style, wich is stored inside the Inventor-file.

It would be better if the library (=factory standard) and all its surrogates are password protected.

And if the user wants to change something, then he has to create a new style (with a new name).

Library is different than styles and standards...

You may want to change the post to password protection for styles and standards not library..

FYI

Previoulsy I had them on the network and only I had modify rights.  That's works great til you go offline, so what I do now is store all my styles in vault.  That does many things for us, as I don't want the users to mess with the styles because sytles are a "Standard".

1.  Getting from vault by default makes them read only.  So if something needs changed they come to me, kind of a review process if we really need or want that change.   If they turn the read only off, then they are the guilty party.

2.  A get from Vault restores their styles.

3.  Secondly it keeps a master copy in vault so there is always a back up.

4.  If I update a style I can notify everyone, they do a get from vault and we're all back up to speed no matter if we're on the network or off it.

My templates are kept in Vault for all the same reasons above.  It's worked well for us 3 versions now.
