Inventor revision cloud

I'd like to see a native Inventor tool to draw a revision cloud on a drawing. I know about the DrawingTools add-in, but this tool often gets very slow (when you draw large clouds). I also would like the functionality to draw a rectangular shape (or any other shape) which will be converted to a cloud.

Basically the same revision cloud tool which is already in AutoCAD.

Is there a timeline on when this will finally be a feature? A Rev Cloud seems like something that should have been in there from the start. And seeing how it is already in the SDK, how hard would it really be to include it as a feature??

Absolutely! should have been there from the start, or at least early days,
not remained some half forgotten bolt on for 20 releases.

Adesk needs to remedy its fundamental failings in core functionality within
inventor drawings ASAP.

I can’t believe how much of a cluster it remains to this day...

Heard from 5 different users today asking the same question.  Has ADSK fixed the rev cloud problem in 2020?  Wish there was a way to force everyone at ADSK to hear about rev clouds as often as I do.

AutoCAD has been doing this right since at least R14 (1997)!

This was "Accepted" in 2013.

6 years later and I'm still shuddering every time this happens.

I install the add in from SDK every year on almost 100 machines and never have issues. Maybe you have a permission issue with computers? I know I had a couple of problems.

That is possible but as it doesn’t work very well even when it works I avoid it if possible.
I and IT will look into the permissions thing though..thanks for the tip…

Try installing with a local admin account on the computer and test it with that account. Pick <everyone> option at installing and no need to do anything with the new registry that is installed/updated. I work in IT and had a few/different hickups every release. It looks like Autodesk made the install from SDK easier and easier each year.

6 years is too long to wait for simple stuff like this.

I have no more nice words to say about it.

probably better to just say nothing and simply move on to better things.

at least they could make it easier for someone to roll the sdk plugin into a standard company standalone / network deployment setup image.

I disagree that making the SDK version easier to install is an acceptable compromise.  Would have considered that compromise 5 years ago, but not anymore.  Below is a sample video of trying to put a revision cloud around a single line in a part list.  The first time or two is trying to apply a rev cloud with the minimum number of clicks (should be two clicks/opposite corners of a rectangle).  There are a couple of instance where the click happens too soon and it closes the shape early not allowing the proper controlled shape.  The last time where the mouse seems to drag slowly across the screen is because the size of the bumps appear to be somewhat controlled somewhat by mouse speed.  Finally started clicking many, many times to try to control the shape better.  In the end it is not the shape that I want, but is good enough.  Don't exactly have 30 minutes to spend on every revision cloud trying to get it just right.  Note, every time it's done wrong the user has to delete and start over.  When watching the video and considering how many people are fighting this, I'm at a loss for how there couldn't be a financial case to have this completed long ago.  ADSK can relax though, our company has given up on them ever taking this user request seriously.

Totally feel your pain!

My problem is that almost every time I go to use the cloud the program (2017 version) crashes at least once during the use. I have resorted to saving after every cloud! 

Not only does it not work correctly it is very unstable!

How can this not be an add in to the program for the very next version? By now that is 2021 but they have the code, even if it is somewhat faulty, in ADSK. Adding it into the program should not be too difficult? 

Maybe we just haven't been a squeaky enough wheel?

Yes! 2017 was the worst for crashing! It drove me (and my colleagues at the
time) nuts! Just when you’ve finished doing an update and wrapping things
up, bam! ✨Gone.

The updated versions in 18/19/20are more stable!

Still it’s a major Clanger that it’s not sorted yet, its more than three
years/versions later.

It’s no wonder Billions of $ worth of large projects have gone exclusively
to Bentley here because Autodesk can’t get their act together on multiple
levels, it makes it even harder to justify subscription renewals if there’s
next to no projects or jobs in the marketplace left to use it on.

Management need to back off on inhaling too much hairspray and get on with
fixing it ffs.

How about when you try and add a click before the second hump is started. Maddening.

And the pointy edges of the clouds just look so amateur!
