Improve/Update Content Center

I just spent a couple of hours creating the attached spreadsheet. I used ‘Content Center’ to search the Inventor idea forum. I found 43 ideas which involved improving and/or adding new content to the Content Center. Those 43 ideas had 644 votes. Since the original idea doesn’t count as a vote, there are actually 687 votes. I also highlighted 10 archived ideas that I would have voted for. To me, this means there are at least 650 votes to improve and/or update the Content Center.

I understand that Autodesk may not want to dedicate scarce resources to something as mundane as updating the Content Center; but adding obsolete structural shapes, PEMS Nuts or strut channel does not require C++ or Visual Basic skills. I’m sure that there are people who are skilled at gathering the necessary information and publishing that information to the Content Center at a reasonable cost.

I’m also sure that if Autodesk doesn’t feel it’s worth the cost, many users like me would be willing to pay a small extra fee for extra Content Center files.

Another option would be for Autodesk to solicit ‘donations’ of Content Center data that could be added to Inventor.

Yes, much of this data is available for download from vendors, but I have yet to find a single ipt or iam file. Most are either step or sat files which, as anyone who has attempted to import, is not the same as a native Inventor file.

Hi, I agree. More Autodesk customers are creating their own custom Content Centers. They require, for example, self-drilling tapping screws for sheet metal DIN 7504K + 7504N, welding stud DIN 32501, welding nut DIN 929, hex nut pipe G thread DIN 431, T-head bolt DIN 261 (see pictures). Would it be possible to add them to the Content Center database? I can provide these families to Autodesk to insert them in the Autodesk standard Content Center.

I Imagine Autodesk to be a company with hundreds of employees. Some who knows what he is doing can easily add 2-20 new norms per day. That would be 500 - 5000 per year. Even if it takes a couple of more employees, that should be the goal. 

For me as a mechanical engineer the content center + screw-tool was the #1 feature, why I bought Inventor. Please establish some kind of agile process, so that we can get an update every month/week/ nightly.

I'm going to add another suggestion for Content Center improvement, mostly add options and other ASME flanges.

**EDIT** (Aug 2024) : The amount of pipe fittings missing from the content center borders on ridiculous; Not many Stainless Steel options for Class 150; i basically have to copy the ASME (Iron or Steel) fitting, luckily the files that are there are robust enough to handle increasing/decreasing dimensions, and then update it to ANSI/MSS specs.  Not impossible just tedious for every type of fitting.  Please update it as a DLC.

@petr_vonasek  , Those are great examples that should be added. We have need of those as well.

About to request full Content Center training & development time again at our company. (Leadership thought the Content Center would be good to go day 1 of purchasing of the product. Same with Vault lol.) I understand it needs developed for your company. But there's still quite a bit missing from the default Out of the Box templates. Like Aluminum extrusions. I was just hoping I could copy 1 for a company standard and just found out there's nothing here for them. There's lots of options for these that Autodesk could use as a selling point.
