Improve the fit mesh face command

Improve the fit mesh face command

Hi Guys,

I've got an STL file which come from laser scanning and I've tried to create the analytic model using the Fit Mesh Face command, but as I see currently there is no chance to do it. I've found many limitation of this command during I trying it:

1. Possibility to switch off the preview

Now the software restarts the calculation after every changes and this is very time consuming with complex data

2. Possibility to terminate the process by ESC

Now in many cases just waiting, just waiting, just waiting, and then kill the process by Windows task manager 😞

3. Improved fitting algorithm

Now the software fails to fit the face in many cases escpecially the spline faces. Spline method also can't handle closed face.

And some more:

5. Tools for mesh editing, like Meshmixer. There is another idea about this: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/integrate-meshmixer-make-the-meshes-a-1st-class-citize...

6. Possibility to unselect the selected elements

7. More selection methods. For example by window, or automatic selection by tolerance, etc.

8. Option to select or not select the invisible mesh elements

9. Possibility to switch off automatic curve fitting during projection to sketch

Regards,

I would say that we need a global update wrt to mesh engine.

Also a subrequest of this is here: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/fit-mesh-face-preview-off-or-on/idi-p/7070898 dealing with the most painful part of this request.

Just to note: Of course the simplest thing is to turn Preview On/Off but the coolest thing would be a background thread which would deal with updating etc.
