iMate Glyph location on Work Axis/Point/Plane

iMate Glyph location on Work Axis/Point/Plane

The position of the iMate Glyphs seems to be a recurring problem to their adoption. Normally I believe in 1 post per idea but the following limitations are all related.

  1. iMate glyph on a work axis, work point, or work plane is where you click on it but that could move anywhere during a part update. I'm not sure how to solve this but can you at least documentation where and where it is expected to move.
  2. Composite iMate glyph appears where the first iMate glyph is. Provide method to position Composite iMate glyph to a vertex, point, midpoint, or center of a face. I'm very open to other ideas.
  3. The child iMates of a composite iMate cannot be edited. They must be removed from the composite then added to a new composite iMate. This makes corrections very frustrating and error prone. Please provide ability to EDIT child iMates of a composite iMate.

This is a bug and should have been resolved 2 decades ago!

Imates and iComposites could use a modernisation

Add and remove imates from composites is a pain, actually, you cant add to an icomposite. Extremely annoying. You have to delete your previous icomposite often till you have everything working.

And next to an 'Matching list' you also want an 'excluding list' or option 'Enforce matching = true/false'

Position of the glyphs are very annoying

Like here I want to place an object fixed in position above a conveyor. But I want to set a different distance in one direction every time. It's not possible right now.

The distance can be locked, but you should be able (as the editor of the icomposite) to select flexible, and then the user gets a text prompt after entry and they have to chose a distance.

And maybe same this for Mate/Flush as flexible by the user.

I believe iMates can be a true succes if approached better and more modern

Creating iMates without flexibility to end user significantly lowers the cases it can be useful.

Holding alt and arrow keys... It works, but only if you did some investigation and trial and error.

It could use a window or listbox in which you see a list of optional connections.

Also when you already connected 2 icomposites, you should be able to edit it (like you can with constraints)

I probably can think of more points, but its weekend, cheers, end of rant

@Cadkunde.nl I agree it needs to be modernized. I think iMates do not get used much because of these limitations and because this idea only has 3 votes.

I know the Inventor product team appreciates small targeted ideas/features so they can focus on what is most popular. I recommend you break up your ideas into several posts. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/idb-p/v1232

I was just writing down some frustrations @ end of workweek

If you want to really make a change/get noticed by autodesk, you have to campaign your idea (through forum or socials) to push vote count, which im way too lazy for.

Or go to beta section and push the problem there.

Just going to leave this idea here incase anyone would like to vote for it.
