When I have no PDM running I am stuck with extracting BOMs directly from Inventor. To make the BOM even more useful I propose the introduction of a BOM structure called “Envelope Assembly”.
An Envelope assembly would be a virtual assembly in the context of the BOM, i.e. there is no IAM whatsoever. In there I would gather all components which need to be assembled for logistic reasons rather than technical ones:
- parts, that need to be replaced together
- components that have to be ordered together
- etc.
I imagine that I can create an “Envelope Assembly” within the Inventor BOM, in the tab “Structured”. Then I simply drag the components I need in there. The grouping would have no repercussions on the actual model structure.
