Enhance tolerance analysis using tolerances applied to model dimensions
To remove errors and be able to update the tolerance analysis, after changes have been made to the model, it should be possible to link tolerated model dimensions to the tolerance analysis.
Please make it possible, that the model dimensions, which are already provided with a tolerances (in model sketches and features) can be called out in the tolerance analysis module and dont have to be entered again manually. Entering these manually just leads to potential redundancies and discrepances. Furthermore an association between the model dimensions and the tolerance analysis module would guarantee the constency of the tolerance calculation, if the model is modified. It is just a logical consequence of using model tolerances.
Original Text was: I did some tests with the Inventor Tolerance Analysis 2020 and was surprised that I had to specify the tolerances of each part, which are actually already functionally present in the part as model dimensions and there is no possibility to retrieve the corresponding model sketch dimensions and tolerances and associatively link them. This would have the advantage that redundancies and discrepancies could be avoided. So the tolerance calculation would also adjust/update accordingly if I change the model. Actually, this would only be consistent with the idea of model tolerances: If the model, which is the master for many other applications (FEM, drawing derivation, CAM, visualizations, etc.), already contains the required information, why enter it manually again in the tolerance calculation module? The chances are that at some point the information will no longer be synchronous if it is not based on the same information, and this almost negates the advantage of an integrated tolerance calculation.
This Tolerance Analysis tool is basically useless to me because I put all tolerances in sketch dimensions.
Moreover, when you Retrieve Model Annotations into a drawing, did you know that the drawing dimension tolerance does NOT necessarily automatically update!
Well, I had no problem with updating tolerances from Model to Drawing and vice versa as long as I do not doubleclick the called out dimensions in the drawing to change the Tolerances but always go over "Edit model dimension" -> "Tolerance".
However there is a really big and embarrassing Bug in Inventor which I reported twice (in Inventor 2010 and later in Inventor 2020) and both times Autodesk refused to recognize the error as such and wanted to sell it to me as a "feature": If you call out model dimensions on the drawing and that dimensions have a tolerances they stay associative to the model until you declare them as a "inspection dimension" (say you want the quality department to take special care of this dimensions, because they are crucial to the designs function or safety). From that moment on you declare a model dimension as "inspection dimension", ironically Inventor silently kills the associativity of the model tolerance between model and drawing...! Even if you remove the "inspection dimension-Feature" it stays statically. You have to delete the dimension on the drawing and call it out again. How ever I cannot understand, how such a critical flaw cannot be fixed... It is really a big disappointment and I had to give an order in the company, not to use the "inspection dimension" feature for safety reasons!
