Countersink for tapped holes

Countersink for tapped holes

A normal part of threading a hole is to include a 90 degree countersink. This provides a lead-in for the screw as well as preventing the first thread from pulling out. The normal Hole tool only has the choice for adding a countersink for flat head screws. It would be nice to have a choice between a flat head screw and the specification for the countersink diameter to be automatically be filled in from the standard xlxs file for lead-in diameter that is used for thread data or include a check box when a tapped hole is chosen to include the chamfer on the hole. The specification would still be included on the thread.xls file.

IT just a simple calculation of for both Metric and Imperial Screws

For 90 degree included angle CSK it is 1.75 * D of the thread or shank

The Counter bore For Cheese Head is 1.5* D of the thread or shank for an exact size or about 1.75 * D of the thread or shank for clearance

The Counter bore For a BA Cheese head is  1.75  * D of the thread of the thread or shank for or about 1.85 * D of the thread or shank for clearance

The Spot Face For for Hex Nuts or Bolts is 1.71 * D, or the distance across the corners (AC)

The Counter Bore For a Hex Nut or Bolt is usually the OD of the socket, which can vary, plus about 5% for clearance and variance is OD of socket

I did this for years, starting with Mechanical Desktop.  I would utilize the countersink or counterbore with the tapped hole I was creating.  It was easier than adding the chamfer (in the case of the countersink) as a second feature.  I don't know if this is what you're looking to do, but it always seemed to work well for me.  If anything, maybe this is a work around until you get the JDI green light.
