Dimension Break Option to be brought into Inventor like in Fusion 360

Hey Guys,

Some of my customers who are pro users of Inventor have started to ask for the Dimension Break option in the Inventor Drawing environment like in Fusion 360.

This sounds like a feature any detailing software should have, surprised to see that this feature is not available in the Inventor drawing interface.

We are refining procedures around idea status.  Changing this to Future Consideration.

When Autodesk add functionality "Dimension Break" that has long been available in AutoCAD LT and Fusion360?
Are we no longer developing Inventor?

Can anyone tell me how ideas get moved?  I had an idea asking for the functionality to put dimensions on the lines used to create the breaks in broken views.  Someone moved it to this idea.  I cannot reply to the email that informed me of this change and now my idea has lost all its momentum.

@Anonymous, There are a number of Inventor Ideas administrators who monitor Ideas here.  One practice we regularly attempt to conduct, is merging duplicate ideas (so that votes do not get split).  Are you stating that your idea, got merged to this Idea and it was not identical in nature?  If so, what was your unique request and do you recall how many votes your original idea had?  I am afraid there is no way to un-merge ideas if they were merged in error.  Regards, -Dan

@ronald_plesh,  the idea your request to dimension the break view, which gathered 10 kudos in the past, Sorry for my mistake, we can't un-merge it. There is a similar idea, could you cast your votes there?

We also would like to see, as in AutoCAD Dimbreak is, a break on the dimension extension line for construction lines. Is there any progress on this matter?

So, nearly seven years on from the OP, and the slightly narky reply from Autodesk when someone (rightly) pointed out Inventor should adhere to drawing standards, we are no closer to a resolution on this issue.

All this despite Autodesk initially accepting it as a suggestion, only to later on drop it to 'future consideration'.

Care to explain why this suggestion has been shelved Autodesk?

How long beyond seven years would you consider 'future consideration' to still be an applicable term?

Hello, I am sorry that you are disappointed with our development velocity with respect to this particular idea. This one is not in our near term plans, thus the "Future Consideration" status. There are a number of internal factors that we consider when enhancing Inventor. Rest assured we continue to leverage this Idea forum in our decision making process. Finest regards. -Dan

Doesn't AutoCAD have a dimbreak too?  Weird that Inventor has never had one.....

How do I get it to work if it has been implemented? I do not seem to find any option for it.

Sorry for mistake here, and we provide the ability that centerlines and center marks with extended lines now break when intersecting with dimensions. You can get the details in https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2022/ENU/?guid=GUID-1E8AE510-B6EC-4C8E-B811-B7E4E78F691D

For the workflow on dimension break, it is not available in Inventor 2022. But it has been tracked as [INVGEN-61559].

This must be a fundamental feature in a modern CAD program - supporting correct 2D drawings according to drawing standards.

Hi everyone, we've been looking into this again and would like to ask which standards you are using?

From reading the ASME Y14.5, it states:

"Where extension lines must cross other extension lines, dimension lines, or lines depicting features, they are not broken."  (There is an exception for extension lines close to arrow heads)

However in ISO 129 it states:

"Extension lines may be interrupted if their continuation is unambiguous"

the OP was referring to dimension lines (not extension lines), but the specification still says: "Crossing dimension lines should be avoided. Where unavoidable, the dimension lines are unbroken."

Perhaps they are referring to company standards.

Not everyone uses specific standards like ASME Y14.5.  In addition, it should be within the control of the drafter to decide if the dimension needs to be broken.  The goal of every drafter is to make the drawing meaning clear and in many cases breaking the dimension makes the drawing meaning more understandable.

+1, how is this still not available when it was introduced in AutoCAD LT back in 2008?

In Inventor, dimension extension lines are only broken when crossing dimension text, but dimension extension lines also need to be broken when crossing OTHER DIMENSION LINES.  This is drafting 101 and I am not able to find any type of work around when drafting dimensions in Inventor!!!

Will it help get this done if someone posts to it every week or month as a reminder that this is a basic feature that is needed and should never have been removed?  Add DIMBREAK back in please!!!!
