Balloons linked to virtual components

There might be a need for some components in assembly (tape, wires etc) which don't need to be 3D modelled, but can be added as virtual components. These components can be added as simple sketch elements to drawing views, but it is not possible to link a balloon to such a virtual component and attach its leader to a sketch element. Please add functionality of linking balloons to virtual components and more flexible leader attachment, so they can be renumbered automatically later.

Create a balloon for a custom or virtual part

If you have a virtual part in the assembly, or a custom part defined in the parts list, you can create a balloon for it. The balloon can be attached either to a part in the drawing or to an existing balloon.

To place a new balloon:

On the ribbon, click Annotate tab Table panel Balloon .
In the graphics window, click to set the start point for the leader line.
Move the cursor and click to add a vertex.
When the symbol indicator is in the appropriate position, right-click, and choose Custom/Virtual.
Right-click again, and then select Continue.
In the Custom/Virtual Parts dialog, select the part, and click OK.

Continue placing balloons, right-click, and select Done to end the operation.

I use Inventor 2027 and this instruction doesn't work at step 2 - "In the graphics window, click to set the start point for the leader line".

I can't click anywhere except components from BOM: not in blank area, not on sketch elements, not on BOM lines... Right-click also doesn't give any extra options.

Add the balloon to ANY existing component, but before committing it ( while it still floats on the cursor), right-click and select Custom/Virtual

Once placed, a Virtual 'parts list' will open for selection

Thank you @MattH_Work , it works. I was halfway there - I was clicking on existing component to start a balloon, but then placing it, overwriting the balloon number and moving arrowhead to my sketch line.
