ALWAYS place new occurrences BEHIND section when in section view

ALWAYS place new occurrences BEHIND section when in section view

May anyone tell me, if the developers of Inventor had an epiphany meanwhile? With my experience so far I would'nt expect it: I'm still on 2020, but even after these 24 releases, yet nobody seems to have realized, that it is moronic, to place a new part that I want to insert, IN FRONT of the section, when I'm currently in section view mode. When i add some new parts I would most likely do something with them in the next step, such as moving them in place or add some constraints or something similar. It's not helpful, if I cannot see them initially.

@Bert_Bimmel - Saw your post this afternoon. Remembered when I posed basically the same question - so went to look it up. Doesn't exist. Hm, wonder what happened?

Though there is a similar post: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/place-part-in-assembly-when-when-in-section-view/idi-p...

As you correctly state, current functionality places components behind the section plane - and therefore renders them "invisible" - until the section plane is turned off. This is IN NO WAY USEFUL AUTODESK. This should have been captured as a bug ten years ago. Can't believe we're still asking for it to be resolved. Sometimes it really feels like Autodesk Inventor developers have zero real-world experience in model / drawing development.

Inventor 2024 provides the enhancement on section view, and it can be suppressed. As to this request, I would suggest to suppress the section view before inserting the new component. When all of things are done, we can unsuppress the section view here. Does it make sense for you? Thanks!

Dear Cai, I do not understand what you're telling me:

You start with "Inventor 2024 provides the enhancement on section view, and it can be suppressed."
This, as response to my suggestion would be interpreted as "New occurrences are now by default placed inside the visible half of the space, unless you choose to suppress this (for whatever reason it might come to someones mind to want it to be placed inside the invisible half).

The rest of your reply suggests that instead, you have implement nothing else but a toggle to switch between section view and non-sectionview fast without having to recreate your section view all over again every time (or creating a new design view for that purpose).

Does this make sense for me? Yes and no. It might be a useful new feature, but doesn't solve the idiocy in the current behaviour.

The enhancements are made for section view in Inventor 2024, and the ability of section view suppressed is one of improvements here. This is the quick around to get the invisible component back without section view recreation, but not a direct solution for your idea. You can access the page for enhancements on section view if interested.

@Yijiang.Cai @Bert_Bimmel I have to agree with Bert - this has nothing to do with the original request for change in functionality. Here's the issue:

1. Working in an assembly, activate the section view from the "Visibility" ribbon panel (e.g. "Half Section View".)

2. Place a component in the assembly.

3. Component shows up "behind" the section plane location - rendering it invisible to the user.

4. User has to turn off the section view so they can see the component placed.

5. Constrain the component in their proper location.

6. Repeat this nonsense every time placing components is required in a complex assembly that requires the use of the "Half Section View".

Having to turn off the temporary section view to see placed components is extremely poor interface design. It causes wasted time and, as mentioned in the thread above - seems to reflect the thought process of programmers who have not worked in a production environment.

@johnmondro4888 I understand your concern, and also communicated the request to the project team for investigation. Many thanks!
