Alternate hole parameters in parameters dialog box

Alternate hole parameters in parameters dialog box

Currently when using the hole feature inventor generates a few numeric parameters, which can be used for various purposes. For example the countersunk M5 clearance hole generates these 3 parameters, representing the hole diameter, counter sink diameter and counter sink angle:

However, in most cases when making changes or using iParts, you are not interested in fine tuning these values, and instead are only interested in the designation or type of hole. Therefore it would be nice to have some option somewhere for inventor to instead generate mulivalue parameters matching those in the hole dialog box. In the case of the example above, that would be the "Size" (or M), and "Fit":

This way, when I go the the parameters window to make a few changes to a part, I don't have to leave and find the right hole to edit it, and when I make an iPart, I can have a a column for the "M" designation instead of less meaningful numerical values.

I don't know if it would make sense to include the "Hole" and "Seat" values as well, or if it would make sense to instead have a "designation" value. I'm curious what others think.

Great idea, running into a similar problem right now. Wanted to drive a hole size from a parameter that's used for several other dimensions. Completely impossible without complicated iLogic rules it seems. Would be great if in your example you could push 6mm to change the M5 to M6 and it uses the default Metric thread size for the selected size. Multivalue lists are potential risks/issues with exporting and for ifeatures.

Could be as simple as a checkbox next to the input field to make the parameter visible so it can be manipulated. Might not want all hole feature parameters visible when you use a lot of them in a part. (Or group them like sheetmetal parameters.)
