Allow Drawing Template To Retain Thread Feature And Tangent Edges Settings

Please can you add the ability to keep the 'Thread Feature' and 'Tangent Edges' options ticked under 'Drawing View', 'Display Options' tab in a drawing template. Each time an initial drawing view is placed on a drawing, these settings need to be ticked. In my drawing template, I have tried placing a view, changing the settings, deleting view and then saving but this does not work.

Add the option of Tangent edges as default to application options for drawings. This my preference and I am forever turning this on per view

Maybe it should be a Document setting instead of Application Option?  Would make it possible to set up template files that behave differently, if someone had the need to do so.

Would also be nice if the tangent edges setting on views in a sheet format actually carried over to the views created from it.  Seems like it should work, but it doesn't (at least as of the last time I tried it).

I definitely agree with @jtylerbc. This should be something that can be defined per-template via either the Document Settings or Styles.

The picture below shows the only way in 2019/2020 that I have found to set the default values.

This is not a neat solution and still its only valid for base views (not projected, section etc):

I would like to bump this old thread as I and some om my customers still see this as a problem.

It would be great if the drawing view setting could have a set of default values in the document settings that decides the starting values for all of the the different kinds of drawing views.

You should still have the ability to change the per view settings if you want to have a view that differs from the others.

An angle of this that I have not managed to even work around is when creating a Section view, this does not inherit the view settings from the parent view. There is a "style from base" checkbox if you go back and edit this view but this is not checked as default.  I believe that changing the default value of this, to checked,  would solve the 2019/2020 situation the fastest for us all.

Bumping this old thread as well.

@dan_szymanski

This would be neat to have some options that you could apply to a document and a user based settings.

What Creo does is have 3 locations for a config.txt file

Location 1 is master (eg company standards could be at C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2020\Setup\en-US\Setup)

Location 2  is slave that can only overwrite some properties loaction 1 (e.g. in the vault location)

Location 3 is the user settings, (theese could be at C:\Users\<int>\Autodesk)

This and and in every possible preffered setting should be a "save to config" that writes the nessecary lines in config.txt on location 3.

That would be neat

I would like to mention that Autodesk Inventor retains a drawing views Display Options (ie. Tangent Edges &  Foreshortened, etc.) based on model type (IPT, IAM, etc.) and projection. So if you create one view of a part with particular display options, close Inventor, create a new drawing and make a view of a different part file, the last used display options will be enabled.

I have always used the feature that @dan_szymanski has mentioned for this purpose: the last way I have placed my view will be retained for the next time I place a similar view. For this reason my primary views have tangent edges disabled by default:

tangentEdges01.png

Unfortunately, if I then project that view into an isometric one, then I will get the tangent edges visible and I have never found a way to get rid of them:

tangentEdges02.png

I came into this issue because one projected view placed by the user without too much attention, has blown the filesize of the exported DXF files to above 100 MBytes per each sheet, and I have technically no way to prevent it (besides running my batch processor through half a million inventor documents and disable tangent edges in all isometric views, which is of course doable, but maybe not the optimal solution for the most out there).

If I may offer my suggestion, I would place this setting in the program options or eventually in the styles, but not in the template, as this last option does not allow to change the behavior of the millions of drawings out there that are then copied for generating new drawings.
