Please enable the ability to use 2D control frame features (e.g., Profile of a Line, Straightness of Line Elements, etc.) directly within the 3D Annotation environment. (This is a current competitor capability)
In the 3D Annotation environment:
Profile of a Line is not available
Straightness (Line Element) is not available
Other 2D-only control frame options cannot be applied to model geometry
Tolerance Features only support surface-based definitions
Extruded and pultruded parts are defined by a 2D profile that is constant along a length. The critical tolerances for these parts are almost always applied to:
Cross‑section line elements
Specific profile segments
Local sections rather than full surfaces
In these industries, Profile of a Line is not optional — it’s the primary method of controlling shape. But Inventor’s 3D Annotation environment only supports Profile of a Surface, which over‑controls the part and does not reflect real manufacturing or inspection practices.
This forces users to:
Abandon MBD for these parts
Maintain redundant 2D drawings solely for GD&T
Lose the benefits of STEP 242 and downstream digital workflows
A current work around that we're using so we can still utilize the Tolerance Advisor, is to use Profile of a Surface in the Model, and then update the Drawing to use Profile of a Line, which unfortunately; breaks the link with the model.
