Add new 2022 Instance TAGs and map them to Vault properties

Inventor 2022 has the new option to add TAGS to instances in a assembly via the Bill of Material.

It would be very useful to have these TAGS in the VAULT BOM too.

Our production imports the Vault Item to produce the sheetmetal and could use the TAG to identify the part (using an engravement in the sheetmetal part) .

@rene_van_haaren: I guess you mean the new Instance Properties. Yes, I would very much like to map them to Vault. Especially since the item BOM has had this for ages…

@RajSchmidt , could you clarify that? I'm not sure what you mean with "the Item Bom has had this for ages."

I'd love to know more about that

@AnonymousI was talking about the BOM Row Properties. They are only available in Vault Professional, though.

@RajSchmidt thanks for your link to the BOM Row Properties.

It would indeed be great if the tags from Inventor could be mapped to these props.

I'm certainly not a product developer, so this is just opinion... but I don't think this could work.  The instance properties work because you can have more than one instance of, for example, a valve in Inventor.  But all of those instances are the same part file.  When checked into Vault, that valve is only one file, and therefore one Item.  Where would these instance tags go?  I think the BOM Row properties are probably as close as you could get to replicating this inside of Vault.  But again, this is only my opinion based on my personal experience with Inventor and Vault.

@CGBenner:

Yep, that is just what I wanted to say. I certainly can’t do anything with the instance properties in Vault on the document level. But the BOM row props are, IMHO, the exact equivalent in the item master.

(After all, we see a comparable thing with the Model States: Vault ignores every state except the master in the data set of the document. Information from the other states can only mapped to items.)

Hi @rene_van_haaren

Please refer to what's new in Vault 2023, it supports Instance properties. I thought it was exactly what you asked for.
