Adaptive springs and variable constraints

Adaptive springs and variable constraints

To give a realistic view to an assembly it would be good to see if a mechanical assembly can actualy work within the degrees of freedom that influence it.

You can for example make a spring adaptive give two items limited constrains, but why is it not possible to combine and to make it work like it would in reality.

I know adaptivity has it limits and might disappear in time, but there should be a way to make a simple example as in the screencast below to work within the limitations of the constraints.  There mostly isn't a need to create a complete presentation of simple assembly but might be usefull to check them.

While there isn't currently a way for the spring to live-update as you drag the top plate, there actually is a way to be able to free-drag the top plate and then have the spring jump to the new position once you've released the top plate. I've accomplished this by pushing geometry of the top plate into the spring part using the "Copy Object" command. I can give you some guidance on how to do this if it would be a useful partial solution for you.

But I agree it would be extremely useful in some situations if Inventor could utilize Adaptivity to drive live updates to flexible parts as we free-drag them around. Unfortunately, for now we have to settle for very rudimentary visualization of the movement of flexible parts.

Hello,

That might indeed be an intermediate sollution for my problem.

Here's a screencast of how to use the Copy Object tool to get an adaptive spring (I have no idea if I can embed a screencast here; I'm going to try but you might just have to use the link):

I also can post my files, but I can't do that in the IdeaStation. If you'd like to see how I made the spring and everything, please create a post in the Inventor General Discussion forum (here) and I can attach my files there.

Hope this helps!

Thank you verry mutch! I placed this with the same title in the database.
