I'm aware that inventor doesn't allow saving a 2d file, but I was wondering if there is any way to get around this? Can we save it as another file type first and then do something with it? Or is it possible to copy the design and put it into a different cad program? I was planning on getting a few things machined (for personal use, not for sale) but just realized after I finished my design that it can't be saved as a 2d file. Do you guys have any ideas on what to do? As a last resort, I could try to redesign it in another program using the same specs, but I already like how it is and don't want to risk trying it out in a different program.
Welcome to the forum.
Inventor CAN save files in 2D format. You can either create a drawing and place the model with different views and then export that (Save Copy As) in dxf or dwg or you can even right click on a face and use Export Face As.
