Model and then export structural model for external FE analysis

We are developing finite element software for a specialized analysis of wind turbines, see simisdotno. The idea is to do the structural/mechanical modelling in Inventor (of the structure, not the blades) and then export the structural/mechanical properties in an appropriate file format, read the exported file and do the analysis. So, we need to model and then export the structural/mechanical properties of the model, such as beam length, cross section, and end nodes.

We are wondering what the efficient/convenient procedure to do this kind of modelling in Inventor is, and what the appropriate export file format is? Thanks for any help.

Paul,

Welcome to the forum.

Do you realize that once you export the model it becomes a dumb solid?  All of the calculations and smarts put into the model are gone.

What software are you looking to import back into?
