how to create an assembly from parts

I have a drawing which has a number of different parts, and I was wondering whether it is possible to create a single assembly from them, so that they share a common origin etc. Is there a way to group the parts together? I was familiar with a 'group' command in Turbocad.

Thanks guys.

I'll wait for the OP to attach the assembly.

I will add as many assembly constraints as needed.

I will remodel every part from scratch if needed.

I have made a half-fix to the problem by importing the assembly to another assembly so that it can be constrained as one part. This was easy because only one constraint needed to be made.

Attached is the assembly - you will notice that when 'Front' is selected on the view cube, the assembly is out of alignment.

It would be great to have this fixed properly.

Thanks guys.

Do you understand the concept of constraining to the origin planes?  These are in the menu on the left in the "Origin" folder.

Or you could right click when mouse over the view cube to choose "Set current view as  TOP/FRONT"  This is a bit rough and ready though.

An assembly must include parts.

You have not attached any parts.

This is a trivially easy fix with access to the entire assembly.

An *.iam file is only a list of hyperlinks to the *.ipt files and instructions on how they go together and a bit more.

Without the cooresponding *.ipt files - the *.iam is completely useless.

Gather all of the part and the assembly files into one folder (looking at your project - this should already be the case).

Right click on the folder and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

Are you looking for a "quick fix", or do you want to learn to do this right?  (Doing it "right" will require starting over and following instructions as provided here, if, you elect to do it right.)

I have done a quick fix myself. I was looking to see how i could fix it properly though.

Can you tell me what the problem is?

Sure.  Let's work our way through the problems one-by-one.

Start a new mm part file.

Turn on the visibility of the Origin Center Point - this will be used as primary reference for all part. (Logical)

Create the sketch shown below and attach the file here.
