Error 1406 Could not write value to key

I get the following error when trying to install Inv 11License Upgrade on XP Pro laptop:
\Software\Classes\CLSID\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\Implamented Categories\{7DD95801-9882-11CF-9FA9-00AA006C42C4}. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support.

Various other messages come up after that with similar errors.

Any ideas?

I have got the same error. here is what you need to do

Installation Error 1406 when attempting to install Autodesk Inventor®
Published date: 2006-04-06
ID: TS1056239
Applies to:
Autodesk Inventor® Professional 11
Autodesk Inventor® Professional 10
Autodesk Inventor® Series 11
Autodesk Inventor® Series 10
Issue

When you tried to install an Autodesk Inventor® product, you received the following error message:
Error 1406. Could not write value to key
\Software\Classes\CLSID\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}\Programmable.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Solution

This error occurs if you have Macromedia Flash Player 8a installed on your system. This version of Flash Player is newer than the version that is installed when you install Autodesk Inventor®.
Before you install Autodesk Inventor, you should check to see what version of Flash Player you have installed on your computer. If you have version 8a installed, you should uninstall it before you install Autodesk Inventor. Because Flash Player 8 is installed during the Autodesk Inventor installation, you will have a working version. Future Flash Player upgrades should not adversely affect your Autodesk Inventor environment.
To correct this issue:
1. Cancel the installation of Autodesk Inventor.
2. Close all Internet Explorer browser windows and any other internet browser windows you have open.
3. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run.
4. In the Run dialog box, enter C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\UninstFl.exe to clean all Flash 8a registries. Note: Make sure to enter the entire path.
5. On the Start menu (Windows), click Settings > Control Panel.
6. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
7. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, select Macromedia Flash Player 8. Click Remove. Note: Although Flash Player 8 is listed, this is really version 8a.
8. Retry installation of Autodesk Inventor.
If you are still not able to install Autodesk Inventor successfully, please contact Product Support for further assistance.

FWIW this error occurred on me without MacroMedia having been installed on a
brand new, freshly formatted hard drive. I reported that to Autodesk but got
no response.

Problem is, that does not always work.

I had the exact same issue and it turns out that for some reason, that
particular registry key had deny access across the board to modify it.
So not even the uninstall for macromedia could delete it!

The only way I was able to fix it is as follows:

1 - Start regedit
2 - Find the registry key
3 - Right click the key, select permissions
4 - Click on advanced
5 - Check permissions for your account, make sure they are set to Full
Control, if not...change them to full control.
6 - Check owner of the key, your user account should be listed as
owner

So bottom line, make sure you own the key and make sure you have Full
Control under your current user account.

If to both criterias are met, you should be able to delete the key
manually in regedit. Then go reinstall inventor and it should be just
fine.

One of the easiest solution for this issue could be
1) Download uninstall_flash_player.exe from
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
2) Run it first, then try to install Inventor 11
You may need to run this utility when you install / uninstall hot fixes and service packs for
Inventor 11.
Hope this helps,

Actually, the way I got around it was to give myself "Full Control"
permissions to the entire registry prior to attempting to install Inventor.

Entire registry is not necessary. It's just that 1 key that gets hosed
for some odd reason. In my case, I couldn't even delete that key with
regedit until I obtained permissions and ownership of it!! But, the
rest of the registry, was just fine.

I guess the macromedia installer creates that key in a wierd way.

I started having issues with this aftern uninstalling all Autodesk products from a Windows 7 64 bit computer to reinstall clean.   I was trying to reinstall a package created on the server.  What I did was drilled down to the actual base .msi install package and started the install this way.  As a result, when there was an error on a class key, I deleted the class key altogether.  Then I hit retry and it recreated it and continued on.

It seems as though the Autocad installer balks when it tries to create a registry key that already exists.
