I have a large assembly which I want to export/save to STEP format to send it to a customer.
There is a subassembly in it, of which I want to hide the details.
So I create a shrinkwrap of this subassembly wherethrough it's visible in the main assembly as one solid part.
Now I export the main assembly (with level of detail on: Shrinkwrap) to a STEP file.
Until so far no problems.
After sending the STEP file to my customers, they say they don't see the shrinkwrapped assembly.
And indeed, when I open/import the STEP file which I sent them, the shrinkwrapped assembly is dissappeared.
I also tried to use the simplify option to create one solid part of the subassembly.
But the same problem appears. During the export to a STEP file of the main assembly, the simplified assembly disappears.
Can anyone advise me how to solve this problem?
Should I use another function to hide the part details of the subassembly?
versions of Inventor?
Are you up to date on updates/service packs?
If 2015.. you should be using the simplify/envelope command.
Excuse me, i'm using the 64 bit edition of Inventor 2014 professional SP2 (build 246)
Hi sfeenstra,
Maybe we can open the subassembly and export it to STEP format (this can hide the detail model creation history), then place it under your top assembly.

Hello Kevin,
Thank you for your reply.
At this way only the model creation history is hidden (the inventor features).
I also want to hide the part structure. So I require there is only one solid part visible for the subassembly.
But when I use the feature "Shrinkwrap" or "Simplify", the solid part is not visible after exporting the main assembly to step.
I still have not found a solution for this problem.
Hi sfeenstra,
When you place the subassembly STEP file, please turn on import option "Import Assembly as Single Part" and set it to "Multiple Solid Part", then the hierarchy will be flattened. Then export the main assembly to STEP again.
