Balooning in a Detail View Bug?

It seems the ability to balloon items in a detail view is dependent on the scale of the view - which doesn't look right to me.

So, I've done a 'demo' assembly and IDW to reproduce this behaviour:

 

In the ZIP attached, there's a drawing with a detail view:

If I try to balloon any item in the 5:1 scale Detail View, the balloons won't 'stick' to anything, and I cannot balloon the parts.

- If I change the scale of the Detail View down to 1:1 or 2:1 then I can balloon the parts as usual;

- If I change the scale of the Detail View up by a large increment (say factor of 5 or 10) I cannot balloon again;

 

(Oddly enough, if I change the view scale up in small increments (say from 1:1 to 2:1, then to 3:1 and so on, checking the ballooning capability at every increment... then I can balloon again at 5:1 , but this is not an acceptable way to create a scaled up Detail View that I can balloon my parts in)  

 

Could someone try to reproduce what I'm seeing here please, before I submit a Bug Report?

Same thing happens in 2017 ....

 

 

I'm wondering if it's related to an IPN problem ...

Thanks for checking this, Michael.

 

To get around this problem for now, I create a 1:1 scale detail view first, then balloon it, and (lastly) change its scale as required.

(A bit of un-necessary extra work, though...)  Smiley Frustrated

Not sure what's happening here. I can't balloon your detail view. If I delete the detail and recreate it, I still can't balloon it. But if I delete both of your views and recreate the base view and a 5:1 detail, I'm able to balloon the detail.

Thanks for checking this for me, Ray

 

The base view in my IDW example is a perspective Custom View Orientation, because a standard isometric view rarely looks right for documenting / ballooning my exploded view assemblies, and, just like in this example, sometimes I need to create Detail Views to balloon some parts which are too small to identify in the main view.

Could be a problem using custom views. When I recreated the base view I just used saved camera view.

I was able to reproduce it in our internal builds. Selection framework doesn't work well in scaled perspective views. Logged as an issue #142373.

I will mark my work-around described earlier as a solution for now, as it's the only way to make the balloons (and some Leader Text annotations too) 'stick' to the geometry in these type of views, until this issue gets fixed.
