when I import a dxf into a sketch nothing shows up (worked in the past)

I am trying to import a dxf into an inventor sketch and when I do nothing shows up in the sketch and there is no error messages. this has worked in the past and has never not worked. I saw some similar posts but they where for much earlier versions and all suggested solutions didn't work.  so far i have tried restarting my computer, opening old dxfs that worked in the past, checking for updates, I also tried the solution quoted below. any advice and help is very much appreciated!

2. Type "cmd" to find "Command Prompt" > right mouse click on it  > select "Run as administrator"

3. On "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type (no quotes)  "cd c:\program files\autodesk\Inventor 2014\bin"

4. Type (no quotes)  "inventor.exe /install" 

5. Press Enter

6. Wait for 1 min (inventor will be executed background then exit silently)

Hi! This may or may not be related to a peculiar option in Windows. Please take a look at reply#21. There is an instruction to reset the option.
