What is the best way to create/place stanchions and handrails in inventor

Hi guys,

I was wondering if there exists a less time consuming way to create and place stanchions/handrails in an assembly. For instance, if we have a multi level stairway, the stanchions have to be placed around the stringers appropriately with continuing handrails.

Is there a way faster than just placingthem all in manually or messing with imates?

Hi! Yes, you can do it with Frame Generator. Please Google the terms "Autodesk Inventor Frame Generator Handrail." There should be plenty of instructional videos for reference.

Hi Matt;

In case if you don't want to go with the Frame Generator - here is a Stairway set of files (IV2020) which might give you some ideas. The part Stairway.ipt in this set controls the design. Look into the Properties DB - it should be self explanatory. To see the design in action - change the amount of Threads (for example) in there and than - update the Master.iam.

I created 2 parts for handrails, modifyable through variables and a stair I found on the internet, modifyable through a built in form.

Thanks a lot everyone I will look into these things. A question on frame generator, if I make handrails in there can i export it to my main .iam file and build on it etc?
