Friends,

I try to shorten a frame member to the end of the vertical girder but Inventor selected ever the wrong end.

So I see I have no options in the menu to change the side.

See picture.

I am not sure that I understand.

Did you figure it out?

If not, then Attach example assembly that exhibits this behavior.

[I am not at my Inventor lap at the moment.] The blue part of the girder is the part which should be cut, means away. The "good one" is invisible, because the yellow surface cut the wrong direction. Where is the option to select the direction of cutting? Normally is an arrow in other CAD-Programs which
show you the direction of cut. Or is something wrong in "Options"?

Hi! The behavior does not look right to me. Please share the files so forum experts can help take a look.

Many thanks!

Hey John,

I moved all my Inventor stuff to my new laptop. I tried with "pack and go" to place my parts here but I have great problems to do so.

I place the parts now here as single parts + assembly and I hope it works for you. I was not able to insert a 3rd part for the assembly.

I get an error message, that my parts are not in the project folder. I have  to figured out, how this works.

Can you send me a link please how to move parts from an older inventor versions-project to a inventor 2020 project?

Thanks

Hi! You did not attach the frame subassembly and its members. Please use Pack&Go and zip them up.

Many thanks!

I've been sitting here for 3 hours and have a "pack and go" for this problem. I'm in the right project and I'm creating new folders to save this thing in the forum as a model. It is always indicated to me that I am not in the current project. And that even though I created folders while I was in the "properly" project. I need a video link for this problem. A video that explains how it works and how I can move parts from one project to another. Before I go insane.

Hi! Do you have a custom project or you use the Default project? Pack&Go is very straight forward. You can either do it within Inventor session or close Inventor and go to File Exporer and find the top-level iam file -> right-click -> Pack&Go -> select the project and destination folder.

I am sorry I don't understand where the problem is. Maybe you could record a video so we can guide you through the process better.

Many thanks!

John, so I remember when I installed Inventor 2020 I used default.

I know this with the file explorer and Pack-and-Go, I use this for years with Solidworks.

Here is a screenshot. The "Pack and Go" is light grey, means not selectable.

Hi! I believe you are using Inventor Read Only, which cannot perform Pack&Go. Do you have Inventor installed? The frame iam file still does not have all the ipt files. Please share the entire folder if possible.

I know you are frustrated. But, it is equally frustrating to me for not getting the complete data. There isn't much we can help without the files unfortunately.

Many thanks!

Thx. When I am home I try a reinstall. Or repair. Normally Inventor runs great,
much better than in my old computer.

John,

OK, next try, see attached.  This time I used  a stick and zip. Not "one drive".

Back to the question: If you can read this now, is there a way to manipulate the trim direction?

Please ignore the 2 planes in the vertical girder, because I attempt to use them as an cut tool.

Thx

Hi! Many thanks for sharing the files! I think the issue has something to do with the preexisting notch. You don't need the notch if you want to trim or extend. Delete the notch and then create the desirable trim on both ends. It should work. Is this what you were looking for?

Many thanks!

I deleted notch. No success. Can you try it in your computer? Should I redesign this part? What do you think?

The "notch" I used came later after I tried with "trim extend".  In CATIA for ex you can manipulate a cut plane direction. Is there so a command maybe in "options"?

I attached the last result.

Thx

Hi! The direction flip is allowed on forward creation but not allowed on edit. I think you picked the wrong portion to keep. Here is what you need to do.

1) Delete the Trim.

2) Trim -> pick the face -> pick the portion of the frame you want to keep -> you can flip to see with side you want to keep. Then click Ok.

Many thanks!
