Way to see "used on" for multibody solids?

Is there a way to tell what part files multi-body part have been saved to? (Inventor 2021)

For example, if I click on one of the parts in an assembly context, its modeling tree shows a reference back to its parent multi-body part file; I know the part file it is dependent on. But, is there a way to see all the part files that have dependencies to a particular multi-body? (I can go to Manage > Author > Export Objects \ Solid Bodies and see all the particular bodies that are marked for export, but that's one step short of showing me the part files.)

Basically I'm looking for the same functionality as "Where Used" in Vault, but for multi-bodies rather than assemblies.

Current workflow to make the parts is: create multiple solid bodies in a part file context, then use Manage > Layout > Make Components to save out each body as a part file, then place the parts into assemblies.

If you use Vault, the Where Used function works on multi-body part files the same as any other file.  If you don't have Vault, there is a similar tool in Design Assistant:

  • Right click on the file in question in Windows File Explorer and select Design Assistant
  • In DA, select the file, then in the Tools menu, pick Find > Where Used; you may need to modify the search paths before clicking on Search Now

The tool has not been updated in a couple of decades, so it looks really dated, and you can't even expand the dialog for a better view on a high resolution screen.  Still, it works.

Perfect, Vault works as described. Not sure why I never checked there...

I've not used the Design Assistant but I've seen it referenced for more than a few topics, I will have to check it out.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Apologies for a double-post on a solved topic, but:

Is there a way to determine which specific solid corresponds to which specific part? It would be very helpful for my particular situation; I'm dealing with about 100 near-identical rectangles trying to obviate / replace / modify certain ones...

In the future I will probably include some iLogic to embed the solid or feature number into each derived part file somehow, but unfortunately I don't have such a legend to use in my current mess.

Edit: For example, I deleted a part out of my assembly. From my multi-body, I know the part I need to add was derived from Solid83, but I have no way to leverage that to find its corresponding part file without just opening all ~100 parts and seeing which one goes to the right spot.

Ouch, this sound like a tedious task!  I don't know of any way without writing some custom code (iLogic, for instance).

For the future, I strongly recommend naming solid bodies with the name of the expected part file so you don't have this problem.  I guess even in the current assembly you could rename the solid bodies in the master part file as you discover which one is which.
