Virtual intersection in drawing without extension lines crossing?

I'm working with Inventor 2011, but we're upgrading to 2016 in the near future (they have me playing around with the free trial to get an idea of what it's like before the upgrade). I'm looking to be able to dimension to a virtual intersection easily, without creating a sketch and without the extension lines crossing. It's a battle I've been fighting with management about how easy it is to create the dimension if they would just allow the extension lines to cross. As it is, they have their feet pretty well dug in and will not budge on the graphical appearance of it. I know the method of selecting the first line, right clicking, selecting intersection, then selecting the second line (I call this the easy way). Is there a setting to adjust how far the extension lines for the intersection cross without affecting the extension lines on the actual dimensions? As it is, we've been creating a sketch on the view every time we want to dimension to a virtual intersection when it's so much easier to use the intersection tool. There's a picture below of what I'm talking about. Thank you.
