Varing sketch pattern and circular pattern question.

Hello,

First of all, I am trying to create an outward linear pattern of a cut feature that allows instances to change size based on geometric conditions. The number of instances to be applied are 7, and the spacing is 0.75 inch. The two slot radius (0.25 inch) must remain constant and tangent with the vertical and 60 degree construction lines, meanwhile allowing the size of the cut to fluctuate.

Secondly a circular pattern of the first pattern ..number of instances should be 6, with equal spacing needs to be applied to finish the part.

Thx.

So you want a load of slots that are tied together but are all different sizes?

This is not how pattern works.

Sounds to me like you just need a well defined and constrained sketch to get what you want.

If you name your parameters it will make it easier to change later on.

I might be wrong because I cannot open your file as I'm on an older version, but pattern is designed to make copies of the same feature.

Your Sketch2 is not fully defined?

The arc ends are not tangent to the slot arcs.

There is a tool that does this step for you automatically.

for this design I suspect that Grill (and Pattern) might be the best option.

Hi JDMather,

I did not fully define sketch 2 only because those arc radius will change during patterning. Thinking twice though I realize that makes little sense. Actually the design is that of a grill.

Thx

Hi! Inventor does not support varying pattern. But, it has some plastic features. Right-click on the ribbon -> Show Panels -> check "Plastic Part." There is a Grill feature.

Please take a look at attached part.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson Shiue,

Very nice and many thanks to you. Would you mind posting a video showing me how you did that.

THX.
