Hi Inventor Forums people,
I've been learning how to use the Report Generator tool in the Cable & Harness environment (using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2023) and changing the output by editing the .cfg file. However, I'm getting stuck with using the Round Up function. Hoping to learn from anyone who is familiar with using these files.
My design requires rounding up to the nearest even number, then adding some extra length to the harness to estimate wire length. When I try to edit the field in the Report Generator dialog box, there are limited options available--I can round to the nearest 1 inch or 6 inches, but nowhere in between.
I have been using this Edit Configuration file help page as a key:
https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2024/ENU/?guid=GUID-3D05DDC0-766C-458C-826E-ABBE64682F45
On that page, the Round Up field is described as below:
Round Up | Indicates the round-up value used for wire and segment lengths. Available values are dependent on the Unit setting. Click in the input box to select from the list. Autodesk recommends to keep the setting as None so the wire and cable lengths in reports and the harness assembly are consistent since Round Up is set in the harness settings. |
In an effort to try and see whether I could manually set up the Round Up values in the harness settings, I opened up my harness assembly settings and saw that there were even fewer options than in the Report Generator dialog box. It didn't include anything that was 1 inch or above:
The last thing I tried was going into my .cfg text file in Notepad and manually overriding the text from "1 inch" to "2 inches".
This caused the Report Generator to completely ignore the Round Up function and I was left with a wire length that was not rounded to any interval, as if the field was NONE.
Does anyone know if there is a workaround to select or edit this round up interval or where the available intervals are coming from?
Thanks for taking the time to read, any guidance is welcome and appreciated.
