For an inventor drawing need to include the item number that is showed in the bill of material on the part description,

Is there any way to do it?

What if that same part is used in a second assembly?

Now the item number is different...

I guess you probably do everything as a one off and nothing is ever repeated..

Its likely possible that ilogic could be used to push that data back to the part files if thats really what you want..

How often do you need to do this type of operation (how many parts/how often,etc...)?

What happens when a new part is added to the bom due to a product change/revision?

Like it has been stated.  Is this a one off?

Is the part drawing another sheet of the main assembly?

Are you looking to use this item number in an individual part drawing?

If you could go into a little more detail that would be helpful.  What you are describing is very generic right now.

Yes, the item number may vary from assembly to assembly, that's why I want to link it to the BOM just on that specific drawing

I believe what you are asking for is covered in the attached idea link.  Which if it is, is not currently available.

Yes that's it, since the post is from 5 years ago I thought it was fixed and I just couldn't find it

Well, as you can see, it is considered for future.  When that future is, is anybody's guess.

Until then, we improvise.  Or maybe some iLogic routine will get you there.

huh?

I'm slightly confused.. (probably just a difference in terminology)

A parts list is a representation of the BOM that is placed on a drawing..

A parts list typically already has a column for item number...

A BOM already has a column for the item number..

My questions I guess are...

1-Whats the point in including that item number in the description column of a parts list?

2-What is the point in including the item number into the description of the item on the BOM screen?

Knowing how you intend to use this information may yield different answers.

I understand that some ERP systems have a field for "item number" per child component in the BOM entry screen but you wouldn't want that concatenated with the description just its own column.

Hi! I could be wrong but I think this is doable via iLogic rule. Basically, you need to get the item number for a given row. Then concatenate the existing description and the item number.

Many thanks!
