Unlocking View Representation

In AI 2018 I am getting

2017-06-26_10-29-50.png

I have checked the views

2017-06-26_10-36-00.png

and none of them are locked.

How can I get to save my part?

Hi Vagulus,

don't worry.

You have probably use a Section View command.

Just click Ok.

Actually, your screenshot shows that the currently active Representation (Master) is locked.  For the purposes of this message, the currently active Representation is the only one that matters.

The "Master" View Representation is automatically locked, and can't be unlocked.  You most likely did something like what @admaiora mentioned (section view).  Section views are saved as part of the View Representation, but since you're using a Representation that by definition can't be saved, you are getting the warning.  It is not saying that your file isn't saving - it is the changes to the View Representation that are not being saved.

You're probably stuck with the message until you close the file and reopen it.  When you do, the section view (if that's what you did to trigger the warning) will be gone, but so will the warning message.

Hi! Indeed, like the experts mentioned here, it looks like you are trying to save a virtual section view to Part Design View: Master. Although PDV:Master is locked, any design view changes can be saved back to the ipt file. This behavior is different than Assembly Design View.

In theory, the user should be able to save the section view to PDV:Master, since all design view changes can be saved to PDV:Master. However, section view in assembly cannot be saved back to ADV:Master. There is indeed inconsistency here. We are aware of the behavior but we don't have a good solution to save the section view back to PDV:Master at the moment.

Many thanks!

Thanks to all.

jtylerbc hit the nail on the head.  Actually, I closed down for the night, and when I booted in the morning and opened AI all was well.
