Unbelievable bug: cannot rename an iLogic rule?

Hi guys,

Normally I would submit this as a bug but I don't believe that it exists. Most probably I am missing something.

Steps:

1. Go to Manage / Add Rule..

2. Leave the default name there & add some code (doesn't matter what)

3. Click on iLogic browser to see the rules list

Expected:

Have somewhere a discoverable way to rename the rule: in RMB menu, in iLogic editor, by double-clicking etc.

Actual:

Hi,

Try this.

Select the rule in browser and press key 'F2' or click in the name and waiting for 2 second, click it again.

Hope it helps!

Hi!

1. Thanks a lot! 🙂

2. Solution accepted.

3. It was (one of the) hardest accepted solutions in my life (yes, I am old). Reason: lack of discoverability. Click. Wait 2 seconds. Click again. Guys..............  (F2 is somewhat ok tho).

4. (for the sake of the other users) Please - pretty please - add an option in RMB menu called „Edit Rule Name”. Same for External Rules (I know that there is another storage layer).

Glad to help!

Another one from the same category (discoverability):

(note the quotes) „There is no documentation for iLogic”

Steps:

1. Add/Edit a rule to open the iLogic Editor

2. Search for Help: iLogic Editor, being a modal window (guys, add a MAXIMIZE button there! ), strongly pushes the user to find the API help (documentation) in that window. You know, is not really a problem to learn the editor but we really need the API docs next to us. Indeed, the last button from toolbar has the classical blue Help icon. Click on it... ....and... <drum roll> ...just a simple (albeit good) page about the editor.

But I want the API. There is no other Help button there. There is no other link in that page.

I am lost.

...ok, after an hour of searching both on the net and locally I finally found that I can access the API help by closing(!) the iLogic Editor, going in the top-right corner at Help button in the program title bar(!) and there in the Help submenu is the API/Programming help.

Suggestion:

Add in iLogic Editor another button (or make a Help menu) to provide in-place access to API/Programming help, especially because the window is modal.

...and don't forget to add Maximize/Minimize buttons to that window. 🙂

Welcome to the Inventor community.

Note that there is an Inventor Customization forum for ilogic and API questions:
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-Inventor-Customization/bd-p/120

As for improvement suggestions, it's often a good thing to create a post to ask about the issue first as you've done here, just to confirm that you haven't overlooked something.

Then go and search the Idea forum, to confirm that an existing improvement request doesn't already exists. If it it does, you can add feedback and suggestions to it, if it does not you can create a new one.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Inventor-IdeaStation/idb-p/v1232

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis
