Unable to Slice Drawing View (Slice Sketch not selecting!!)

I am new to Invetor; I mostly use AutoCAD or Solidworks, and I have a fairly unique piece to dimension (Shown Below).

I am having trouble with step 6 of Slicing Operation Steps as per Autodesk Inventor Help Topics:

Create a Slice operation defined by sketch geometry

  1. Select an existing view for the Source view.
  2. On the ribbon, click Place Views tab  Sketch panel  Create Sketch to open a drawing sketch associated with the view.
  3. Create sketch geometry to define an open slice sketch, and then exit the sketch environment.
  4. On the ribbon, click Place Views tab  Modify panel  Slice .
  5. Select another view for the Target view. The Slice dialog box is displayed.
  6. Select the previously defined Slice sketch as the cut sketch.

Optional: Check Slice All parts to override Browser component settings and slice all parts in the view, according to the Slice sketch geometry. Components that are not crossed by the Slice Line do not participate in the Slice operation.

  7. Select the previously defined Slice sketch as the cut sketch.
  8. Click OK to perform the Slice operation.

Whenever I get to step 6, the option to select the slice sketch is not available. When I hover the mouse over the Sketch, nothing happens. PLEASE HELP.

Thank you for reading!

P.S.

When you create a 2D drawing, you will need to go to the 3D model and break the link with HEAD,machined, A590.ipt first.

Please post the ipt file with the sketch you are trying to use for the slice

Ok I just did.

Also, in order to make a 2D drawing you need to break the link the 3D with HEAD,machined, A590.ipt.

I'm sorry.. I wasn't paying enough attention.. (I skimmed and thought you had a problem with a split in a part file)

Please also post the idw file where you can't select your sketch...

In the future its always best to include the Inventor files from the start. Pictures can help in some cases but are useless in others.. (like this one 😉 )

You are missing Step 5 or you do not understand what another view is.  A slice is basically a section view without thickness.  It is just a profile cut at the exact location of the sketched line.  All slices views must be in a projected view to the one you place the slice sketch.  Take a look at the screencast, it will clear it up for you.

Thank you so much! The geometry selection is very subtle, but I was able to follow your video exactly, and pound it out.
