Unable to open SLDPRT in Inventor 2016

Hi Everyone,

New to the forum here, and pretty green when it comes to working with Inventor and Solidworks.

I'm trying to import/open a sldprt file from SWX 2016 standard into Inventor 2016, and i get the error stating it's an unsupported version. I've done the update 1 for inventor. Previous to the update, the error popping up was invalid file type.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - are you able to share your model? Please send me a private message if not.

The Inventor and SWX years differ so I'd expect Inventor 2017 can open your file, I can do that for you and send you back a file that you can open in your version of Inventor.

Cheers,

Indy

Welcome to the community...

Inventor 2016 is unable to open SW 2016 parts.. Rule..  Inventor is 1 yr behind..  So you can only open SW 2015 parts or go to Inventor 2017.

Thanks Mark for the Tip. We upgraded to Inventor 2017 and can open the 2016 sldprt files without any issues.

What version of Inventor (including Service Pack)?

What version of SolidWorks?

What is the size of the file?

Can you attach it here?

I have Autodesk Inventor HSM 2015.  It will only allow me to upload 3 files.  I have more if I am able to email you the file?

You can right click on folder containing all files and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder and then attach the resulting single *.zip file.

You should be aware that this is a public forum, so if the files are proprietary - do not attach them here.

The files were created in SolidWorks 2015 - so you would need Inventor 2016 to convert them.

I think you could convert them through https://myhub.autodesk360.com/ , but not sure about that - give it a try.

(convert to STEP *.stp to open in Inventor 2015)

You will be out of luck for drawing files (*.slddrw).
