Unable to extrude anything from (shared) sketch

After a few years off of Inventor, I recently joined a new project. Workflow still a bit rusty but getting better everyday. Now I stumbled upon something that even my colleagues using Inventor for a long time couldn't explain.

In my part environment, I often put a lot of information in my first sketches, to extrude multiple bodies out of it, as well to use it for other sketches. Doing this to include all in the information I need in the least amount of sketches.

Now that I am further in my design, I want to use one of this first sketches again to extrude something, but can't seem to do so. It doesn't let me select the profile. No open loops or any problems like this, even a normal circle drawn in this sketch is not extrudable.

Can't immediately find an answer in this forum either, but probably just a newbie mistake...

Screenshot after I drew a circle in Sketch1, not able to do anything with it.

It appears that you have the surface button selected (Upper right corner of the extrude dialog box, orange box)..Press that and see if you can extrude.

No nothing to do with that unfortunately 🙂

Can you share your part? If you start a new part, do you get the same results? Do you have all updates installed? Help > About:

Yep, update just installed but same problem. So far I only find it to be a problem in Sketch1

Only reason I asked about surfaces is just to remember that surfaces you have to select edges and not internal areas to extrude, so if you were trying to choose the inner area of your circle with the surface option on, it will not work. And also remember that if you added the circle and were expecting it to auto select that circle, it will not work as you have multiple profiles, so you would have to select the area you want to extrude.  Only reason I state this is you had mentioned it has been a while since you used the software. Just a little refresher lol.

I understand, thanks for the reminder, could indeed be some small stupidity I am overlooking. But not the case for the surface toggle anyway haha

Thanks for thinking with me here!

Its something in the sketch, if I take all your horizontal projected edges and set to construction, it will then extrude the circle:

If I then edit the sketch and make the horizontal lines non-construction I get this when diagnosing the sketch:

Allright, that seemed to work! Seems it needs some cleanup... Could you explain what exactly went wrong here and how I can avoid it in the future?

Many thanks!
