Unable to export DXF in imperial units

Hi,

I create a part in imperial units, but when I export the face to DXF, there's no option to specify the unit.

The laser cutting company tells me my files are in mm.

So I had to export the part to .STEP, then open it with Solidworks, then I was able to export the face in DXF with units in inches.

Is there any option to avoid this ridiculous procedure ?

Jesse

Most CAD programs should allow you to detect and set the units upon import of a DXF file..

So is there a way to export with the right units in the first place ?

Solidworks has no problem with it.

Hi! I am sorry I am confused. It should work. This is like 101 workflow. By default, the export should obey document unit. In your case, I assume you use inch.

In DXF export workflow, do you use any .ini file specifying a different unit? Please share an example here so forum experts can take a look.

Many thanks!

It appears to be working if I start by creating a part in inches, my problem was that I used a part in mm and changed the document settings to have inches afterward, this doesn't work or maybe I have to change other parameters as well.

Thanks for the answer.

I had the opposite problem. Go to Tools -> Document Settings -> Standard -> Annotations, and select the Active Standard you desire.

I've been searching the Web for this exact problem for over an hour now. I start a brand new file, design simple rectangle 8x60", all the unit settings being in inches, I export it to DXF and my laser cutting guy tells me the measurements are 20.32"x152.4".

This clearly means Fusion is translating my inches into cm, but leaves the unit code in the DXF files to inches!!  Driving me nuts..

Hi! What product are you using? Inventor or Fusion 360? This is Inventor forum.

Many thanks!
