Unable to edit model!

Hi everyone - I am experiencing an issue in Inventor whereby i am unable to edit a model. I previously modelled this myself and saved this as a .ipt file. However, when I open the file, there doesn't seem to be any function which allows me to edit a revolve or extrusion feature. I am relatively new to Inventor but will post a screenshot accordingly.

Are there different Inventor versions on your system? The 3rd Party listing in the model browser perhaps is hinting to an imported file (STEP etc.) instead of an Inventor IPT.

Hi, thanks for your reply. This problem is occurring in both methods. No matter whether it is a .ipt file or a STEP file, I am unable to edit the model.

Upload your file, and tell us which Inventor version was open in your attempt.

STEP, IGES or other import formats only work with geometry,  no modeling history is transferred.

Please find file attached. I am trying to edit this in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016.

Looking at the 3rd Party entry, it's obvious.

Source file is N:\Ryan M\Bryan Donkin\PISTON 310 DE 24 MODEL.stp

While working with the IPT, you must have saved a copy as STEP, and opened this one again with Inventor. After that, all parametrics is gone.

Perhaps you can find the initial IPT in the OldVersions folder.

On the other hand, you can re-build this one easily by a midplane sketch with projected cut edges, break links, apply new dimensions and revolve as a new part. The dumb solid can be deleted in a last operation.

Hi Ryan,

You may want to go to Inventor App store and download Feature Recognition. It is a free app for subscribers, which can help convert the dumb solid to editable features.

Many thanks!
