Turning Faro arm scan into 3D model

Is there any kind of add on to allow me to scan a piece directly into inventor? Any help is appreciated

What is is the scan output? Point cloud? Mesh?

If it's a pointcloud you will need Recap or something similar to turn it into usable surfaces or a mesh. inventor can't do much with point clouds.

If it's a mesh, you can get the mesh enabler from the app store. That'll allow you to turn the mesh into CAD surfaces.

but to answer your question more directly, No. I don't think there's any add-on that makes scanning to IV seamless.

Yes, I use dezignworks for Inventor in tandom with my Faro arm. it works great and I highly recomend the software and the developers. Jim Watson is a great guy and very knowledgable. They are the #1 reverse engineering software in the world of Nascar.

I can choose point cloud or mesh.

OK, Choose mesh, Then get meshmixer and decimate the mesh to a reasonable triangle count. 

import that into inventor with mesh enabler/

How big are the objects you scan?  I sometimes need to model rail cars or earthmoving equipment...
