Trying to model a garter spring

Trying to follow the method shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihM4uLzxeI0&t=253s to create a garter spring.

I get as far as adding twist to the sweep but Inventor is giving me a self intersection error.  Wondering where I'm going wrong.  File is attached.

I don't see the line sketch in the file that you Attached for the Sweep?

Oops, now I see it.

Works fine for me using your file.

What angle are you using for the Twist?

Yeah, I was fudging the angle.  Supposed to be 33,120 deg

I might model the spring in a more simplified fashion though, as the model graphics LOD always seems to be stuck in "chunk mode".

Hi! I see the failure now. It seems to be related to the diameter. It should not fail. 33120 should be doable. I am able to make it work if I change the diameter to 1.00 though.

Many thanks!

See attached image.  I was able to model the spring to the dimensions I needed, but graphically, the spring looks terrible...  How do I solve this?

Hi! This is a geometry-specific bug in faceting, meaning the graphical representation is messed up. I don't think you can fix it without changing geometry or fixing the bug in Inventor.

Many thanks!

So, if this is a known bug in Inventor, when will it be fixed?  A lot of our tooling assemblies use garter springs, would be ideal to model them realistically as opposed to faking them with a hollow toroid.

Attach your *.ipt file here.

There are several ways to model this geometry - including using an Equation Curve.

File is already attached above, you've looked at it.

1. The ipt file you attached above is not complete.

2. The ipt file you attached above is not the most efficient technique.

3. The ipt file you attached above is not the same as the image you attached in response #5.

I realized that I made a mistake and will post second example when I get a chance.

This example matches the same parameters as your file.

Turn on your sound...

Bump.

Eight days and counting.  I would have expected more questions on how to model the geometry.

I watched both your videos but I didn't see a file attachment.  I'm definitely interested in how you modeled this spring.
