Trouble Opening Large Step Files

Good Morning,

I wonder if anyone can help me with an issue ive been having regarding opening step files.

We recently received a 250mb step file from a customer and as i expected it would not open. It was then shrink wrapped and sent to us as a 150mb Inventor part file, no problems opening it at all.

I then saved it as a Step, which ended up being 73mb and i still cannot open it at all.

I have gone through the procedure of unchecking various options in the import window to aid its opening but it makes no difference.

My computer is more than equipped to be handling these files , 32gb Ram, 4.00Ghz CPU etc etc.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Benjieng.

What happens when you open the file? Does Inventor crash or just stops?

So when i open it inventor will freeze after about 5 seconds and then will only close via task manager.

Sometimes if i leave it long enough large files will open, but i believe these are large Inventor files and not steps.

Well a 73mb step file will take some time to open. Just wait for it, can take some time i know.

Generally speaking, ~73mb size is not a very big file size for Inventor to handle, but it would be better to investigated case by case based on your data set.

What's your inventor version use ? and what's your import options ?
