Trouble Installing Inventor 2016 Pro on Win 10

I'm trying to install Inventor Professional 2016 onto a new Windows 10 (Education version if that makes a difference) workstation.

It's failing at the .net bit I've tried the suggestions listed on this site regarding editing registry (won't allow me to edit the version number and yes I've run as admin), running a command prompt and running the installation with switches to skip .net install. Edited the setup.ini (although wasn't sure where the line should've been inserted).  But it still attempts to install .net 3.5 despite having 4.6 installed and it fails to install it saying that an Internet connection is required to install a Windows component (yes Internet is on but I am behind a proxy.

I've tried creating deployments but they've failed as well.

What else can I do to get this to work?!

I hesitate to get involved in this one - since you have already messed around with a bunch of stuff without first asking questions, but -

what method are you using?

I'm happy to format this workstation and start again from scratch if need be.

First thing I would recommend is just a reboot, maybe you have Windows Updates installed and waiting a reboot which will cause this error. You could also try installing .NET 3.5 prior to installing Inventor after the reboot, more details in the following article.

Thanks,

Thanks but I came across that .net 3.5 thing yesterday as well.

I get error 0x800F081F when trying to install 3.5 that way (links to here).

Today I changed my group policy and added a source that contains the 3.5 cab file but still it won't install.

I also tried manually downloading and installing .net 3.5 yesterday (or maybe last week) but Win 10 wouldn't let me install it.

When's Inventor 2017 coming?? Smiley Happy

p.s. and yes I've rebooted a few times

One thing that may possibly be causing an issue is that Windows isn't activated yet.  We use KMS to activate windows here and as yet I haven't met the threshold of 25 Win 10 computers.  If you really think that that is causing the problem I could activate it using a different key (MAK)

Ok I've managed to get .net 3.5 installed.

For myself and anyone else that comes across this problem you need to run the following command (in an elevated command prompt) where d: is Win10 Installation media (can link to a network folder if required)

DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /Source:d:\sources\sxs /All /LimitAccess

Currently installing Inventor so I may be back if I hit any other obstacles.  Thanks for your help anyway guys.
