trim surfaces

I can't work out why i'm unable ro trim the edges from the lofted surface using the extruded surface as acutting tool in the attached file. Can anyone help?

I haven't looked at @JDMather 's file, yet, but I found that the apparently unnecessary extra "flanges" on the lofted surface prevented the trim operation, so I altered the loft sketches to remove them.  Then it works.  The attached file is 2021 format (you forgot to tell us that in your first post).

yes, whenever I try, I'm unable to select the edge only of the loft so it's all getting deleted by the extruded tool surface? Does one need to exceed the edges of the other for trim to work?

Hi! JD and Sam are right. This is so-called near-tangent or ambiguous Boolean condition. The two side faces at both ends create difficulty on trimming. They are not needed. The rule #1 on Boolean is to have clean intersection.
