top down design parts in assembly not visible

Forum Folks

when I am in Inventor 2014 and have an assembly. I want to create a part. when I start to create this new part in the assembly, the existing parts are invisible. they are still there but cannot be seen. so I cannot pick any features from the existing parts for the new part....

if I wonder around the screen the existing part will highlight...but, still not solid...is there a setting I am missing??

thank you

Hmmm...typically the parts just go into "ghost" image.

I'm wondering if it might be your color choice?

What is your color settings at?

Try a darker background color.

Do you have the latest service packs installed?

Obviously what the non-active parts of an assembly should look like:

and here's my current color settings:

Just curious....you ARE in Sketch mode of the new part when you're trying to select the edges of the other parts as reference, correct?

the first pic is when I am ready to sketch

second pic is when I hightlight the existing part on the side bar, just to show you what is going on.

thank you for responding

Hi! It looks like the options have been changed on your machine. Go to Tools -> Application Options -> Display -> Inactive Component Appearance -> Opaque. The default is 25%. I guess yours is set to 0%. 100% would look as regular display.

Many thanks!

Component Opacity was set to Active Only, should be set to All as shown
