Thumbnail View missing!

I have a seat of Inventor 2016 Professional that was Installed on a Windows 7 Professional workstation. Recently I upgraded to Windows 10 and noticed that When I browse to the location of my Inventor files the Thumbnail view is gone only the Icon shows. Also the I properties is missing from the properties dialog. This true regardless if I use windows explorer or if I use the Open dialog from the Inventor application. I'm not sure how to reenable this. It is very useful when browsing for like components in a directory. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? See my screencast.

sorry I have nothing to assist but since you didn't mention anything about this subject then I'll cover it. So far it appears Autodesk has made headway in making AutoCAD 2016 compliant with Win10 - I have heard nothing in regards to Inventor 2016. I just checked the "Windows 10 Support" link to the right and it's all focused on AutoCAD apparently. Good Luck.

I was fully aware that Inventor 2016 does not yet support Windows 10, that is very obvious for any old school Inventor user. I'am very sure that the development team has been testing and verifying Inventor will work with the new operating system. I just found a bug and thought I would put it out there so maybe they will fix it before they release the annoucement that they are supporting Windows 10. I beta test alot of stuff. Don't let my post mislead you into thinking I'm complaining, I just wanted it as a known issue when upgrading to Windows 10 Pro.

Thanks for the help appreciate the input.

JDMather, Thanks for the update...Thats what I read also...Maybe I'll get lucky and they will find a fix for this issue...or not there are other issues that have not yet been resolved but I'm sure they have a list of priorities. Where this issue is on the list is a mystery....I'm not gunna hold my breath.

It's funny because all the other software I have show thumbnails for there files. Only the autodesk applications. There must be a registry change somewhere that is defaulting to show icons only. I have the windows explorer folder options set to show Thumbnails instead of Icons. My pdfs and office documents show Thumbnails with no problems. I'm sure it's something simple.

I give up JD. no need to post anymore if what I read at the top of that screen which states "Applies to..." and Inventor isn't included there - why should I read the rest of the tiny print. Thanks again for pointing out my bad info again - no thanks to Adesk.

I have noticed that the AutoCAD DWG files are fine. They show the thumbnails as they should its just the four Inventor extensions that are not showing the thumbnails. They are ".idw", ".ipt", ".iam" & ".ipn".

Weird!

I see just the opposite behavior on my machine.  But I have no interest in AutoCAD.  So I'm good!

Not sure what happened but my Thumbnails are now working just fine. This includes the view from windows explorer and from the open dialog from the Inventor software. I do appreciate all the input and help that you fella's gave me....

There have been some multiple windows updates since 10-8-15, maybe it was one of these that corrected the issue.

These include:

  • KB2267602
  • KB3087040
  • KB309946
  • KB890830
  • KB3097617

SEE THE SCREENSHOT BELOW!

And now they are not working again...I'm very confused on this issue! Windows 10 did do some updates again, they are only updates for windows defender definitions. This should have no impact on the Thumbnail views.

I'll keep looking for a solution. Inventor I heard is releasing SP2 at the end of October 2015 so maybe there will be a fix in that package. Thanks agin for all your input guys.
