Thicken Command Cut leaving surface artifacts after creating cut on curved surface

Hi all,

I am trying to cut into a curved surface with consistent depth, so I decided to use the Thicken feature after splitting the curved surface by projecting a 2d sketch as a 3d sketch onto the surface. After using thicken, I am left with these surfaces that I cannot get rid of with delete face as it deletes parts of the solid I do not intend to be deleted. I have included a picture. I believe it to be because of the tolerancing that comes with the thicken cut, so what options do I have to remedy this issue?

(If anyone also has a solution for one large split instead of me doing 25 splits I would GREATLY appreciate it as I am about to throw a car battery at my computer screen)

Thanks!!

MG

Hi! Before thickening, I would create a zero-offset surface (Thicken -> Offset) from those faces. Then use Extend command to extend certain edges to have broader coverage. Then use Thicken -> Cut to move the unwanted portion.

Many thanks!

Hi!

Could you please provide an example? I am unsure of how to offset and then extend.

Thank you!

I am unsure if this is correct as I am cutting into the pattern

Hi! Without seeing the actual model, I can only speculate. This is what I meant by creating a zero-offset surface and extending the edges.

Many thanks!

Thank you! I will give it a try. Is there a way to emboss onto this surface to avoid the thicken feature and having to split so much?

Hi! You may use Emboss. But the underlying process is the same. The Emboss is like a combo feature consisting of Split and Thicken.

Many thanks!
