The protein library file is not available

At Autodesk's recommendation, we have moved our Inventor design data to Autodesk Vault.  I modified our application options to change the paths for the Inventor design data. (see screen capture).  I modified our Inventor project file to change the path for our company material library.  (See screen capture)  I check the project file into Vault and do a get or check the project file back out and re-open Inventor and my custom company material libraries show in RED in the project file and I show the error about the protein library file not being available.

Why does everything work just fine until I check into Vault and refresh the local project file.

Any help to solve this problem would be appreciated.

Hello John,

Open your project file in Notepad++

You will see that it still points to J:\Databases\InventorDesignData\2016\Materials\

I would suggest.

Check out your project file.

Open it in Notepadd++ (it's free https://notepad-plus-plus.org/)

Change your path settings.

Check in your project file.

Every vault user should perform a get (refresh) of the new project file.

Hi John,

My opinion is Autodesk steered you in the wrong direction. I would not put your Design Data in the Vault. I have mine on a network drive that all my Inventor users can see. Then I have my Vault Project pointed to that network path. I also do that with our templates.

That being said, all our Inventor users are in one location.

Design data folder on a shared location is not great idea either...  It can lead to non-responding issues in Inventor...

For example...

When you open a part, drawing, or assembly, and any threaded hole information within those files, Inventor has to open and close the thread excel spreadsheet for each hole that it encounters.. Image if you had a large assembly with numerous holes...

Its kind of like 10 people printing to a single printer, it gets backed up.. 

Anyhow just throwing in my 2 cents...

Thank you so much for your help!  I actually re-created my Vault project file from scratch.  Not only where the paths incorrect for our custom material libraries, they were also listing the incorrect server for our content center libraries.  After recreating our Vault project file, everything is working like it should.

You are absolutely right Mark.  We were having issues with Inventor hanging because we were sharing our Inventor design data on a network drive and this have solved that problem.  No more application hangs because all design data is local and I can control the deployment of that data using Vault.

Each scenario, @jweiss1313 or yours has pros and cons.  I guess I look at it.. Do you have a numerous people using Inventor all at the same time?  Have you experienced non-responding issues in Inventor?   I would weight my options.

Let me ask you this..  Is any information in the design data folder that has been modified or it is still out of the box?

Having it locally helps to relive non-responding issues or issues related to slow network communication.. But if you make changes to that information you have to ensure everybody gets that update.  Having it on a shared location, helps in that situation.   Its one of those pros/cons thingy..

Hi Doug,

All the Inventor design data is stored in the user's local Vault workspace.  As an Admin, I can make changes on my local computer and check them into Vault.  Users then do a Get on the design data folder to receive their updates.

I wasn't a big fan either at first and this is the first time we are trying it as we just rolled out our Autodesk 2017 upgrades.

Our Thread xls is custom a little so the metric is the default. A few other things.

Material library and Appearance Library so total custom.

We have about 50-60 users of Inventor.
