Texture not showing in APS Viewer after adding custom appearance in Inventor 2025

Hi all,

I created a custom appearance in Inventor and added an image to it. Then I applied that appearance to a part file. Inside Inventor, everything looks correct — the texture shows properly both in the part file and in the assembly (the part is used inside an assembly).

The issue comes up when I try to view the same assembly in APS Viewer. After translation, I opened it in the APS Viewer but the texture is missing — the model only shows the base color, not the custom image texture.

The images used for the texture are stored in the workspace folder only.

So my questions are:
1. Is there a limitation in Inventor or APS that prevents custom texture images from being exported with the model?

2. Do I need to place the texture files in a specific location or embed them differently so they carry over into the translated SVF?

3. Has anyone successfully managed to get custom Inventor textures/images to display inside APS Viewer?

Hello, what version of Inventor are you working in?  I think that support for materials and appearances in the Viewer is fairly recent, probably Inventor 2026.  I was able to do this just now using IV 2026.

Hi! Please try a quick test. Create a box part and add a threaded hole. Save the part and upload it to viewer.autodesk.com. Does the thread texture display correctly?

Many thanks!

Hi @johnsonshiue ,

I tried your suggestion and created a box part with a threaded hole. However, when I uploaded the part to autodesk viewer
, the thread texture did not display correctly.

Inventor 2025 should support decals:
https://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2025/ENU/?guid=GUID-A65AFB99-B6E8-4A3B-B5FA-73462C1F2788

However, I think thread textures are not strictly the same as a texture and these were added in a separate update, but I'm not sure which version supports them.
